We decided to purchase talkabouts so if we are camping or kayaking and get separated, we can stay in contact if cell phone service is non-existent or spotty. 

We purchased Motorola T465 two-way radios. We chose these because they are dual power (batteries and USB) and NOAA Weather Radio. Mountain to valley range is up to 35 miles, open water up to 6 miles, neighborhood up to 2 miles. 

We will update on how these work as we use them. 

One thing you will find with us is that we do not follow recipes and we do not measure. So if you are looking for a Jalapeño Popper recipe with exact steps, keep scrolling lol. We definitely trial and error and wing it as we go!

After soaking our catfish fillets in salt water overnight, we froze them in packs of 2. We like to purchase bulk meat then split it up and freeze it. Pork and Chicken can look similar when frozen so labeling with contents and the date is a good idea. 

My (Kathy's) mom mentioned she liked a beer batter fry she tried, so we purchased McCormick's Beer Batter Seafood Batter Mix. It was crunchy and delicious!  Catfish tends to be more meaty instead of flaky which makes one fillet fulfilling, except for our 14 year  who required two. 

A minnow seine (pronounced sane) is a net attached to poles to catch live bait such as minnows, crawfish, and hellgrammites. What are hellgrammites you ask (pic 1 below)? They are the larval stage of the Dobson fly. We seined in the crick, ok creek but I grew up calling it a crick. ​

After storms all night and rain most of the day, baseball was canceled so we decided to go Catfishing. Our bait tonight was cheesy hotdogs with garlic. ​

We have dreamed about encouraging others, especially kids, to enjoy the outdoors. You don't have to be an expert to get out and try. There is too much pressure to be immediately successful, which prevents people from exploring something new. 

Sharing with you what we have tried, some worked, some completely failed, is what this venture is all about. Yes, we will  get to my (Kathy's) failed brats and failed frozen corn attempt in one of the blogs - someday.
